Lower increase in annual earnings

The estimated annual earnings for full-time employees in financial intermediation are NOK 408 600 in 2003. This is an increase of 17 300 or 4.4 per cent from 2002. In comparison, the increase in annual earnings from 2001 to 2002 was 5.2 per cent.

Employees in monetary and insurance intermediation have estimated annual earnings of NOK 386 800 in this year. This is an increase of NOK 17 000, or 4.6 per cent, from 2002. In other financial intermediation, the annual earnings are estimated to NOK 484 400, which is up NOK 17 500 or 3.7 per cent.

The annual earnings are estimated using information from wage statistics from at least two years back and information from the wages settlement. The annual earnings measure the average earnings for a calendar year, and may hence differ from the average monthly earnings, which are measured at 1s tSeptember each year. Annual earnings do not include payment for overtime work. The estimated annual earnings for 2001 and 2002 are final, whereas the figures for 2003 are preliminary until wage statistics for 2004 have been established.

2,9 per cent increase in average monthly earnings

The average monthly earnings for full-time employees in financial intermediation were NOK 34 300, which was an increase of NOK 1 000 or 2.9 per cent from last year. The average for employees in monetary and insurance intermediation was NOK 32 500, which was an increase of NOK 1 000 or 3.0 per cent. Employees in other financial intermediation also increased their earnings by NOK 1 000 on the average, up to NOK 40 500. This was an increase of 2.7 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which covers a total of 35 652 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the 3rd quarter of 2003, the statistics cover approximately 47 300 employed in financial intermediation.
