Monthly earnings up 4.1 per cent

The average monthly earnings of full-time employees in construction were NOK 29 200 at 1 October 2006. This is an increase of NOK 1 200, or 4.1 per cent, from 2005.

The subsection “Building of complete constructions or parts thereof, civil engineering” has the highest number of employees with monthly earnings of NOK 29 600. This corresponded to an increase in salary of NOK 1 400, or 4.9 per cent, from 2005. The increase is mostly due to an increased basic salary, but some of the increase is also caused by increased bonus payments.

Craft workers

Craft workers represent a large group in construction, with average monthly earnings of NOK 27 200, an increase of NOK 700, or 2.6 per cent, from October 2005. Electricians saw their earnings rise by NOK 1 100, or 4.0 per cent, in the same period, whereas average monthly earnings of cabinet-workers remained more or less unchanged. The latter is due to an influx of foreign labour. In comparison, woodworkers had an increase in monthly earnings of NOK 800, or 3.3 per cent, to NOK 25 800.

Annual earnings

Average annual earnings of full-time workers in construction are estimated to NOK 344 700 for 2006, a 3.6 per cent increase from 2005.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 52 148 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter of 2006, the statistics cover approximately 146 100 employed wage earners in construction.
