Monthly earnings increased by NOK 700

The monthly earnings for full-time employees in construction were NOK 26 400 on the average at 1 October 2003. This was an increase of NOK 700 or 2.8 per cent from the corresponding month in 2002.

About two thirds of all full-time employees in construction are found in the group "Building of complete constructions or parts thereof, civil engineering". Their monthly earnings were NOK 26 400 on the average, which was a NOK 600 or 2.5 per cent increase.

Employees in building installation had monthly earnings of NOK 27 000, which was up NOK 800 or 3.2 per cent. In comparison, workers in building completion received NOK 24 600. This was an increase of NOK 900 or 3.9 per cent.

Craft workers

Full-time working craftsmen had a just below NOK 700 increase in average monthly earnings, from NOK 24 400 in October 2002 to NOK 25 100 in 2003. Carpenters and joiners make out a large part of this occupational group, and these had monthly earnings of NOK 24 200 - a NOK 700 or 3 per cent increase from the year before. Electricians and the like had earnings just above NOK 26 200, a NOK 400 or 1.6 per cent increase.

Full-time working plumbers had monthly earnings of NOK 25 700, which was NOK 600 or 2.4 per cent more than the previous year. In comparison, painters and related workers had NOK 23 400, which was a just below NOK 400 or 1.5 per cent increase.

Other occupational groups

Full-time working senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 40 100 on the average. This was an increase of NOK 1 300 or 3.3 per cent from 2002. Technicians and associated professionals had NOK 32 500, which was up NOK 1 900 or 6.2 per cent. Clerks, market sales workers and service workers received NOK 24 700 on the average.

Annual earnings increased by 3,8 per cent

The estimated annual earnings are estimated using information from wage statistics from at least two years and the quarterly wage index. The quarterly wage index is used to distribute the increase in wages throughout the year.

The average annual earnings for full-time workers in construction are estimated to NOK 313 500 for 2003. This was an increase of NOK 11 500 or 3.8 per cent from 2002. For all groups in construction, the increases in annual earnings were lower from 2002-2003 compared to 2001-2002.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 41 762 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter of 2003 the statistics cover approximately 119 900 employed wage earners in construction.
