Wholesale and retail trade, breakdown of turnover by product, 2008

The nearly 18 200 enterprises within wholesale trade had a combined turnover of about NOK 740 billion, of which sales of merchandise amounted to NOK 686 billion. Sales commissions amounted to NOK 6.7 billion, while NOK 46.6 billion was turnover from service, industrial and primary activity.

Included in the total sales income of NOK 686 billion were retail trade services, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, of NOK 13.6 billion, and wholesale and retail trade of motor vehicles, of NOK 0.5 billion.

Food, beverages and tobacco, the largest group

With nearly NOK 198 billion, wholesale trade services of food, beverages and tobacco was the largest main commodity group within the industry division Wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles in 2008. Sales of fish, crustaceans and molluscs amounted to NOK 49.3 billion, making it the most sold commodity group within food, beverages and tobacco.

The second largest main commodity group in 2008 was Other specialised wholesale trade services. Sales income within this category amounted to more than NOK 194 billion. Of this, NOK 87.3 billion was sales of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products, while NOK 48.1 billion was sales of hardware, plumbing and heating equipment and supplies.

Sales of machinery, equipment and supplies amounted to just over NOK 108 billion, of which NOK 26.7 billion was sales of mining, construction and civil engineering machinery.

Clothing and footwear for NOK 14 billion

Within the category of household goods, the largest commodity group was pharmaceutical goods, with NOK 27.5 billion, while the sales of clothing and footwear amounted to NOK 14 billion in 2008. The total sale of household goods amounted to almost NOK 119 billion.

The sales of computers, computer peripheral equipment and software amounted to NOK 25.8 billion.
