Retail trade for NOK 298 billion

The sale in the retail trade amounted to NOK 298 billion in 2007.

The sale in the wholesale and retail trade is excluding VAT. Only retail trade is included. Retail trade of motor vehicles, motorcycles and automotive fuel is not included.

The enterprises sold food products and natural stimulants for NOK 118 billion. This equals to 39.6 per cent of the total sale - the same share as in 2002.

The sales of clothing amounted to NOK 31.4 billion, or 10.5 per cent of the total sale - up from 10.3 per cent in 2002.

The sales of health articles, medical and orthopedic articles, cosmetics and toiletries amounted to NOK 21.3 billion. This equals to 7.2 per cent of the total sale in 2007 - down from 9.2 per cent in 2002.

The enterprises sold furniture, lighting equipment and office supplies for NOK 14.7 billion, while the sales of electrical household appliances and radio, TV, video amounted to NOK 16.2 billion. This equals to 4.9 and 5.4 per cent of the total sale respectively, compared to 4.9 and 4.8 per cent in 2002.

Retail sale in non-specialized stores

The sale for enterprises in retail trade in non - specialized stores with food , beverages and tobacco predominating amounted to NOK 125 billion in 2007. Retail sale of food products and natural stimulants, amounted to NOK 100.5 billion, or 80.3 per cent of this sale.

The enterprises sold meat and meat products for NOK 16.1 billion and milk, cheese and eggs for NOK 12.8 billion. This amounted to 12.9 and 10.2 per cent of the total retail sales respectively.

The enterprises sold tobacco products for NOK 6.4 billion, whiles the sale of alcoholic beverages and light beer amounted to NOK 5.8 billion. This equals to 5.1 and 4.6 per cent of the total sales respectively.

The enterprises sold bread, cakes and flour confectionary for NOK 9.1 billion, or 7.3 per cent of the total sales.

The non specialized retail stores sold vegetables for NOK 6.9 billion, or 5.5 per cent of the total sales, and fruits and berries for NOK 5.6 billion, corresponding to 4.5 per cent.

The enterprises sold coffee, tea and cocoa amounted to NOK 2.2 billion and non-alcoholic beverages (mineral water, soft drinks, squash, juice etc.) for NOK 6.5 billion in 2007. This equals to 1.8 and 5.2 per cent of the total sales respectively.

The sale of health articles, medical and orthopedic articles, cosmetics and toiletries in non-specialized retail stores amounted to NOK 3.8 billion, or 3.0 per cent of the total in 2007. The sale of perfume, cosmetics and toilet requisites amounted to NOK 3.3 billion, or 2.6 per cent.

The non- specialized retail-stores sold newspapers and periodicals for NOK 2.6 billion, or 2.1 per cent.

The sales of washing and cleaning articles amounted to NOK 2.8 billion, or 2.2 per cent of the total sale.

The rest of the sale for enterprises in other retail sale in non-specialized stores constituted NOK 14.8 billion in 2007. This includes sales of sporting goods (except clothing and footwear) and bicycles for NOK 3.8 billion, clothing for NOK 3.2 billion and footwear for NOK 1.2 billion. This equals to 25.5, 21.8 and 8.2 per cent respectively.

Clothing and footwear

The enterprises in retail sale of clothing had a retail sale of NOK 27.5 billion in 2007. They sold clothing for NOK 25.2 billion, or 91.4 per cent of the total sale.

The enterprises in retail sale of footwear had a sale of NOK 4 billion. This equals to 98.7 per cent of the total sales.

Furniture, lighting equipment and office supplies

The enterprises in retail sale of furniture had a sale of NOK 14.5 billion in 2007. They sold furniture, lighting equipment and office supplies for NOK 11.2 billion, or 76.8 per cent of the total sales.

Sales, space and number of fixed market stands

For the 24 234 enterprises in retail trade 13 955 enterprises, or 57.6 per cent, had a sales space less than 120 m². Enterprises in retail sale not in store are not included in the figures for sales space. 6 705 enterprises, or 27.7 per cent, had a sales space from 120 to 399 m², while 2 371 enterprises, or 9.8 per cent, had a sales space from 400 to 999 m².

For the 4 740 enterprises in retail sale in non - specialized stores with food , beverages and tobacco predominating , 2 341 enterprises, or 49.4 per cent, had a sales space less than 120 m². 1 090 enterprises, or 23.0 per cent, had a sales space from 120 to 399 m², while 892 enterprises, or 18.8 per cent, had sales space from 400 to 999 m².

The 150 enterprises in retail sale via stalls and markets had 154 fixed market stands and/or stalls in 2007.
