Norwegians enjoying more and more wine

The registered turnover of wine was 72.9 million litres in 2010; an increase of 1.6 million litres or 2.2 per cent from 2009. The turnover of beer and spirits had a decrease in the same period.

The registered turnover of alcopops rose by 1.4 per cent, while turnover of beer and spirits decreased by 0.6 and 3.7 respectively.

More beer last quarter

In the fourth quarter of 2010, the turnover of beer increased by 214 000 litres or 0.3 per cent compared to the same period the year before. The turnover of wine rose by 244 000 litres during the same period. This corresponds to an increase of 1.2 per cent. From the fourth quarter of 2009 to the fourth quarter of 2010, the turnover of spirits and alcopops decreased by 4.8 and 0.2 per cent respectively.

25.9 million litres of pure alcohol

Total registered turnover of pure alcohol was 25.9 million litres in 2010. This breaks down into 11.4 million litres of beer, 9.0 million litres of wine, 4.9 million litres of spirits and 0.5 million litres of alcopops.

In 2010, the turnover of pure alcohol was 6.7 litres per capita for 15 years of age and over. This is a decrease of 0.02 litres or 0.3 per cent compared to 2009.

The figures are calculated based on registered imports and figures reported to the Directorate of Customs and Excise (TAD) by businesses that pay tax on alcohol sales. The figures do not include Norwegian citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad.
