Continued increase in sales of wine

The registered turnover of wine was 704 000 litres higher in the first quarter this year than in the same quarter last year, an increase of 4.7 per cent. In the first quarter 2008 the total registered turnover of wine was 15.7 million litres.

Registered turnover of beer rose by 1.3 million litres, or 2.4 per cent, in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the same period last year. Spirits and alco pops increased by 105 000 and 223 000 litres respectively the same period, equivalent to a rise of 3.7 and 11.4 per cent.

1.5 litres pure alcohol

Measured as pure alcohol each person 15 years or over drank an average of 1.51 litres during the first quarter of 2008. This is an increase of 0.04 litres or 2.7 per cent compared with the same period in 2007.
