1.5 million litres more wine

During the first quarter this year, the total registered turnover of wine in Norway was 17 million litres; an increase of 1.5 million litres, or 10 per cent, compared with the same quarter last year. Turnover of spirits and beer also increased.

In the first quarter this year, the registered turnover of spirits and beer was 143 000 and 2.7 million litres more respectively than the same period last year. The total turnover in the first quarter 2010 was 3 million litres of spirits, 58 million litres of beer and 2.4 million litres of alcopops.

7 per cent more litres of pure alcohol

Total registered turnover was 400 000 litres more of pure alcohol in the first quarter 2010 compared with the first quarter 2009. This divides into 192 000 litres of wine, 125 000 litres of beer, 56 000 litres of spirits and 13 000 litres of alcopops.

The figures are calculated based on registered imports and figures reported to the Directorate of Customs and Excise (TAD) by businesses that pay tax on alcohol sales. The figures do not include Norwegian citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad.
