Norwegians drink more wine

The registered turnover of wine was 17.3 million litres in the 3r d quarter this year, an increase of 531 000 litres or 3.1 per cent compared with the same period last year.

In the same period the registered turnover of beer was down 1.5 million litres and spirits 14 000 litres. This is equivalent to a decrease of 2.1 and 0.4 per cent respectively. The total registered turnover in 3r d quarter 2009 was 194.8 million litres of beer, 8.8 million litres of spirits and 8.9 million litres of alcopops.

Less litres of pure alcohol

The total turnover of pure alcohol decreased by 40 000 litres in the first nine months in 2009 compared with the same period in 2008. This is equivalent to a decrease of 0.2 per cent. The total turnover of pure alcohol was distributed between 8.7 million litres of beer, 6.3 million litres of wine, 3.4 million litres of spirits and 403 000 litres of alcopops.

The figures are calculated based on registered imports and figures reported to the Directorate of Customs and Excise (TAD) by businesses that pay tax on alcohol sales. The figures do not include Norwegian citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad.
