Beer and wine increase the most

Compared to the same quarter last year, the registered turnover of beer and wine increased by 6.3 and 5.5 per cent respectively in the second quarter 2006. This is an increase of 4.2 and 0.9 million litres respectively.

The second quarter this year the total registered turnover of beer and wine in Norway was 70.9 million litres and 16.7 million litres respectively. During this period the total registered turnover of spirits and alco pops was 2.8 and 2.4 million litres.

1.7 litres pure alcohol per person

Measured in pure alcohol each capita 15 years and over drank an average of 1.70 litres during the second quarter 2006. This is an increase by 0.05 litres or 3.0 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2005.

11.3 million litres pure alcohol

Registered turnover in all was 11.3 million litres of pure alcohol during the first six months 2006. This divides into 5.4 million litres of beer, 3.6 million litres of wine, 2.1 million litres of spirits and 0.2 million litres of alco pops.

The figures are calculated based on registered imports and figures reported to the Directorate of Customs and Excise (TAD) by businesses that pay tax on alcohol sales. The figures do not include Norwegian citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad.

Most Registered turnover per capita in Denmark

A comparison of statistics on alcohol sales among the Scandinavian countries shows that measured in pure alcohol each capita 15 years and over Denmark had almost twice the consumption, at 11 litres, as Sweden and Norway with 6.6 and 6.4 litres respectively during 2005.
