We drink more wine

The registered turnover of wine was 481 000 litres higher first quarter this year than in the same quarter last year. This is an increase of 3.8 per cent. The first quarter this year the total registered turnover of wine in Norway was 13.3 billion litres.

Registered turnover of beer decreased by 215 000 litres, or 0.4 per cent. From the first quarter in 2005 to the first quarter in 2006 registered turnover of spirits and alco pops rose respectively 74 000 and 42 000 litres.

1.32 litres pure alcohol per person

Measured in pure alcohol each capita 15 years and over drank an average of 1.32 litres during first quarter 2006. This is an increase by 0.01 litres or 0.8 per cent compared to first quarter 2005.

The figures are calculated based on registered imports and figures reported to the Directorate of Customs and Excise (TAD) by businesses that pay tax on alcohol sales. The figures do not include Norwegian citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad.
