61 million liters of wine

The registered turnover of wine was 61 million liters in 2005, an increase of 3.2 million liters from 2004. This is an increase of 5.5 per cent. In the fourth quarter 2005 the registered turnover of wine increased by 3.4 per cent.

The figures are calculated based on registered imports and figures reported to the Directorate of Customs and Excise (TAD) by businesses that pay tax on alcohol sales. The figures do not include Norwegian citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad.

Less beer

Registered turnover of beer was decreased by 2.3 million litres, or 0.9 per cent in 2005 compared to 2004. Registered turnover of beer was 246.8 million litres in 2005. Turnover was 59.5 million litres in the fourth quarter 2005 and at the same level as fourth quarter last year.

The registered turnover of spirits was 11.9 million liters in 2005, an increase of 314 000 liters or 2.7 per cent from 2004. Turnover of Alco pops increased by 0.8 per cent during this period.

6.4 litres of pure alcohol per person

Measured in pure alcohol each capita 15 years and over drank an average of 6.4 litres during 2005. This is an increase by 0.15 litres or 2.4 per cent compared to 2004.
