Increase in turnover of wine

The recorded turnover of wine was 1.1 million liters higher in the third quarter 2005 than in the third quarter of 2004. In the third quarter of 2005 the recorded consumption of wine was 15.1 million liters.

The figures are calculated based on registered imports and figures reported to the Directorate of Customs and Excise (TAD) by businesses that pay tax on alcohol sales. The figures do not include Norwegian citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad.

Consumption of wine increased by 2.6 million or 6.4 per cent in January - September 2005 compared to the same period 2004.

Small increase in beer consumption

Registered turnover of beer was 1.3 per cent or 848 000 litres more in the third quarter of 2005 compared to the same period 2004. Registered turnover of spirits was 4.7 per cent higher this period. Compared to the same period 2005 turnover of Alco pops increased by 2.2 per cent in the third quarter of 2004.

1.67 litres of pure alcohol per person

Measured in pure alcohol each capita 15 years and over drank an average of 1.67 litres during the third quarter 2005. This is an increase by 0.11 litres or 7.1 per cent compared to the same period 2004.
