Increased use of bus

Overall, there was an increase of more than 6 per cent in public transport from the third quarter of 2010 to the third quarter of 2011. From a total passenger growth of 6.8 million, bus passengers accounted for 5 million.

Kilometres offered increased by 1.2 per cent in the third quarter. Despite this and the increase in passengers, ticket revenues decreased by NOK 25 million. The bus companies only had a 3 per cent increase in ticket revenues, although the number of fares increased by 7.8 per cent. The statistics do not indicate whether this is due to lower rates or shorter trips.

There were only marginal changes in the figures regarding boat traffic.

Oslo Central Station closed for six weeks

Oslo Central Station closed for six weeks this summer due to major construction work. The two major rail companies, NSB and Airport Express, suffered considerably, but strong figures from the tram and underground gave positive passenger figures overall.

Difficult to compare over time

Both the boat and the bus sector have faced large changes in structure, technology and types of contracts during recent years. These changes make it difficult to compare numbers over time.

The figures are preliminary and may be adjusted for comparisons to the new annual survey for 2011.
