Growth in tax revenues

In the period January-March 2009 total tax payments amounted to NOK 202.9 billion. This is an increase of NOK 45.1 billion or 28.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2008. Most of the increase is due to the large revenue from taxes on petroleum in February.

Changes in the payments of petroleum taxes

The system for payments of petroleum taxes was changed with effect from the summer of 2008 from two yearly terms (1 April and 1 October) to six yearly terms (1 August, 1 October, 1 December in the income tax year, and 1 February, 1 April and 1 June in the following year). This leads to a strong increase in the petroleum taxes in the first months of 2009.

Though the large increase in the beginning of 2009 is explained by the new system for payments of term taxes, the term taxes in the first half of 2009 will be higher than ever.

Paid and distributed taxes by county. Change in per cent, January-March, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009

Total tax payments excluding taxes on petroleum amounted to NOK 167.7 billion. This is an increase of NOK 9.9 billion or 6.3 per cent, compared to the same period in 2008.

Ordinary taxes to municipalities grew by NOK 1.9 billion - or 6.1 per cent - to NOK 32 billion. Tax payments to county municipalities totalled NOK 6.5 billion. This is an increase of 382 million or 6.2 per cent.

Employer contributions to the National Insurance Scheme constituted NOK 41.1 billion and member contributions totalled NOK 25.5 billion. This is an increase of 7.3 and 9.4 per cent respectively compared to 2008.
