One out of five entrepreneurs in limited companies were women

Preliminary figures for 2013 show that 19.5 per cent of the entrepreneurs in private and public limited companies were women. Thirty-seven per cent of the entrepreneurs in personally-owned enterprises were women.

A larger share of female than male entrepreneurs had a higher education. Forty-seven per cent of the women and 29 per cent of the male entrepreneurs of personally-owned enterprises had a tertiary education. Of the entrepreneurs in private and public limited companies, 47 and 36 per cent had a higher education respectively.

Most male entrepreneurs in almost all economic activities

A majority of the entrepreneurs in most of the economic activities were men. Among the entrepreneurs in private and public limited companies, only in personal service activities were the majority women. Six out of 10 of these entrepreneurs were woman. In human health and social work activities, 42 per cent of the entrepreneurs were women.

Among newly-established personally-owned enterprises, the women were in the majority in three economic activities: education, personal service activities, and human health and social work activities.

A large share of female entrepreneurs had growth in employment

Fifty-six per cent of the private and public limited companies established in 2007 that had survived until 2012 reported growth in employment in this period. Among limited companies established by men, 41 per cent had a growth in employment. A larger share of the enterprises established by men had a growth in turnover in the same period.
