Increase in public purchasing

In 2004 the public sector purchased NOK 256 billion worth of goods and services. This is an increase of 5.8 per cent compared with the previous year.

The general government proportion of the overall public purchases was 79 per cent or NOK 202.7 billion. The remaining 21 per cent were purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises.

The overall public purchases amounted to 15.2 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

Central government by more

In central government the purchases totalled NOK 121.1 billion in 2004 - an increase of NOK 8.0 billion, or 7.0 per cent.

Increase in public enterprises

In 2004, the public unincorporated enterprises' proportion of the overall public purchases amounted to NOK 53.2 billion. This is an increase of NOK 3.9 billion, or 7.9 per cent.

What is public purchasing?

Public purchasing covers expenditure on goods and services and on gross fixed capital formation in central and local government, and similar purchases undertaken by state and municipal quasi corporations.
