Tourism satellite accounts update

Preliminary figures from the Norwegian tourism satellite accounts show a stable growth in both output and consumption in current prices.

The tourism satellite accounts are now updated with preliminary figures for 1998, 1999 and 2000. This period shows a stable growth in tourism in Norway in current prices. The output in tourism industries increased by around 7 per cent a year. At constant prices the annual growth rate was between 1 and 2 per cent. The tourism industries' share of the GDP is stable at around 4 per cent during the period.

Tourism consumption

The total tourism consumption in Norway in 2000 was estimated at MNOK 74 500. From 1997 to 2000 the annual growth rate in total tourism consumption fluctuated between 5 and 7 per cent. The strongest growth is estimated for residents' tourism consumption. For tourism consumption by non-residents the annual growth rate was about 4 per cent from 1997 to 2000. Preliminary figures for tourism consumption is measured in current prices only. The Norwegian consumer price index during this period was 2.2 per cent from 1997 to 1998, 2.3 from 1997 to 1998 and 3 from 1999 to 2000.
