More psychiatric patients are being treated on an out-patient basis
Out-patient consultations at psychiatric institutions in Norway
increased by 10.5 per cent from 1994 to 1995. The number of beds per 1,000
inhabitants has, however, dropped from 0.7 to 0.6, according to preliminary
figures from Norway's 1995 County Health Statistics.
The number of beds in psychiatric institutions increased from 1994 to 1995,
but there has been a decline in the number of beds in psychiatric nursing homes
and after-care homes. The number of beds in psychiatric hospitals totalled
3,338 in 1995, while the number of beds in psychiatric nursing homes and
after-care homes totalled 3,393. Overall, there has been a 1.4 per cent decline
in the bed capacity of county-run psychiatric institutions.
