observed

Observed average age at marriage for all married

The average age is average of those actually marrying in the period, thus being influenced by cohort size variations. ('Exact age', calculated as an average of completed years plus 0,5 years).

Observed average age for never married

The average age is average of those actually marrying in the period, thus being influenced by cohort size variations. ('Exact age', calculated as an average of completed years plus 0,5 years).

Observed average age for previously married

The average age is average of those actually marrying in the period, thus being influenced by cohort size variations. ('Exact age', calculated as an average of completed years plus 0,5 years).

Hypothetic average age for never married

On the condition that a cohort unmaried persons at age 15 years will get married according to the age-specific marriage rates the year observed, and that deaths do not occur. The figures are not influenced by cohort size variations. In 1996 a new model for calculating per cent unmarried at age 50 was put into use. Using the model, new figures for 1991-1995 have been calculated. The implication of the adjustment is that the percentages are not directly comparable to those of preceding years.
