Cause of death codes are recoded from ICD-8 (1969-1985), ICD-9 (1986-1995) and ICD-10 (from 1996) to codes based on the European short list. Numbers from before 1996 may deviate from numbers earlier published due to revision of the classificatory system. In addition, numbers from before 1989 may deviate slightly from numbers earlier published due to maintenance of older data files. The WHO-standard for age- and sexstandardization has been used.
