Price index for existing dwellings, 2nd quarter 1998:

Increased housing prices throughout the whole country


The prices of existing dwellings increased by a total of 5.3 percent from the 1st to the 2nd quarter this year. The prices rose most in this period in Akershus excluding Bærum by fully 9 percent. In the rest of the country the prices rose by 4 to 7 percent.
The prices of small houses, i.e. semi-detached houses, row houses and rows of single family houses, rose most by 7.4 percent from the 1st to the 2nd quarter of 1998. The corresponding figure for single family houses was 4.6 percent, while the prices for apartments rose by 5.2 percent. The prices of small houses rose most in this period in Akershus excluding Bærum by 11 percent. The biggest price increase for single family houses was 8 percent in the price zone for the cities of Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim.

From the 2nd quarter last year to the 2nd quarter this year, the total index for existing dwellings rose by 10 percent. Oslo and Akershus had the biggest price rise in this period with an increase of about 16 percent. In the cities of Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim prices rose by 11 percent, while the prices in the rest of the country increased by 8 percent. The prices for apartments and for small houses rose by about 13 percent in this period, while the prices of single family houses increased by 8 percent.
