Thirty die in July traffic accidents

Thirty persons lost their lives and 1,004 were injured on Norwegian roads in July, preliminary figures show. Comparative figures for the same month last year were 27 fatalities and 904 injured. The average for the month of July in the five-year period 1992-1996 was also 27 fatalities, while the number of injured was 925.

The final injury count for July 1996 rose to 1,167, however.

Among last month's fatalities were 14 motorists, five of whom were under 25, eight between 25 and 64, while one person was over 64. Eleven passengers lost their lives. Two were children under the age of 15, while there were three fatalities in each of the age groups 15 to 24, 25 to 64 and 65 and up. Two motorcyclists, one mopedallist, and two pedestrians were also killed.

One hundred and sixty-five people were killed and 6,242 were injured in traffic accidents during the first seven months of the year. This is 26 more fatalities and 380 more casualties than for the period January to July last year. The average for the period 1992 to 1996 shows 166 fatalities and 6,131 injured.
