10 per cent decline in bankruptcies

A total of 1,705 bankruptcy proceedings were opened in the first half of this year, down 195 or 10 per cent compared to the same period last year. Oslo and Akershus had a combined decrease of 140 bankruptcy proceedings and accounted for 72 per cent of the reduction.

Of altogether 1,705 bankruptcy proceedings 1,045 were business failures, while 660 were personal bankruptcies (including self-employed and employed persons). The ratio between the number of business failures and personal bankruptcies was almost unchanged in the first half of this year compared to the first half of 1996.
