Annual sales of alcohol, 1996:

Norwegians are drinking more and more beer and wine


Norwegians consumed a record amount of wine and beer in 1996. Consumption of wine increased by 7.7 per cent in 1996 compared to 1995, and consumption of beer increased by 3.3 per cent. However, 1987 still ranks as the peak year for overall consumption of alcohol in Norway.
Total consumption of wine in Norway in 1996 was over 33 million litres, corresponding to 9.4 litres per capita. Of the total consumption of alcohol in 1996, wine accounted for 22.2 per cent, compared to 21.7 per cent in 1995.
