Statistics on existing building stocks, 1996:

1.3 million homes in Norway

Norway had a total of 3,271,000 buildings on 1 January 1997. Of these barely 1.3 million are residential buildings. The most common type of housing is detached single family homes, which account for 78 per cent of all residential buildings.
Most detached single family homes are found in Rogaland and Akershus Counties, with 91,000 and 86,000 homes, respectively. Oppland and Hedmark Counties have the most detached single-unit dwellings per capita, with respectively 344 and 355 homes per 1,000 inhabitants. Oslo has the fewest, with only 43 detached single family homes per 1,000 inhabitants. Not surprisingly, apartments, row houses and terrace houses are more dominant than elsewhere in the country.
