Cost of private home-based day nurseries increasing

From 1994 to 1995 the average cost per hour for a day-care place in small, subsidized day nurseries run out of private homes increased by nearly seven per cent. This is the first year costs have increased since the registration of accounting data for private day-care centres began in 1992.

Nevertheless, there is still a considerable difference between what a place in a private home-based day nursery costs compared to regular private day-care centres run for example by groups of parents, churches and companies. In 1995 the cost per hour for children aged 0-2 was 40 kroner in regular day-care centres and just about 29 kroner in home-based day nurseries. Compared to 1994 this was an increase of 2.2 per cent for the regular day-care centres and 6.9 per cent for home-based day nurseries.
