Foreign trade in goods, November 1996:

Record NOK 10.4 billion trade surplus


The export value of crude oil and natural gas totalled NOK 15.7 billion in November, while the value of traditional goods was NOK 13.6 billion. With an import value of NOK 18.9 billion for traditional goods, this yielded an overall surplus of NOK 10.4 billion in merchandise trade with foreign countries.

The trade surplus of NOK 10.4 billion is the highest ever recorded for a single month. For the period January to November the surplus was NOK 85.2 billion, compared to NOK 46.8 for the same period last year.

New records for oil and gas exports

Exports of crude oil and natural gas were record high in November and amounted to NOK 15.7 billion, whereof crude oil accounted for NOK 13.8 billion. These are increases of respectively 60 and 63 per cent compared to November last year. In November this year exports totalled 93 billion barrels of oil, which is the highest quantity for a single month. The average price was NOK 148 kroner per barrel, down from NOK 152 kroner in October, but 44 per cent higher than the price level in November 1995.
