Waste management is being centralized

The number of waste disposal facilities in Norway has been nearly halved in the course of the 1980s and '90s. At the same time there has been a strong decline in the number of waste disposal facilities that only serve one municipality (local government). In 1995, the number of waste disposal facilities accepting waste from more than three municipalities had quadrupled compared to 1979. The extraction of gas from waste disposal facilities is increasing, although utilization of the gas from the same facilities is still low, according a survey Statistics Norway has conducted at all of Norway's waste facilities.
