Income and cost survey for doctors in private practice, 1995:

Doctors with operating subsidies have the best operating results


Doctors in Norway who maintain a private practice with a government operating subsidy agreement posted higher operating results before financial items than doctors without an agreement in 1995. Specialists in private practice with an operating subsidy agreement had an average operating result of NOK 688,000 - 24 per cent higher than specialists without an agreement.

The average operating result was NOK 527,000 for all doctors in private practice in 1995. Doctors had an average work week of about 40 hours.

General practitioners in private practice with a traditional government operating subsidy agreement had an operating result of NOK 509,000 - 43 per cent higher than for GPs without an agreement. GPs without an agreement had an operating result of NOK 355,000. GPs with an agreement worked an average of four more hours a week compared to their colleagues without an agreement.
