Cheaper petrol

Norway's consumer price index climbed 0.1 per cent from May to June. Seasonal price increases for vegetables and potatoes, along with higher rent, charter and cabin prices were the main contributors. Lower petrol prices were an offsetting factor.

Prices rose 0.9 per cent from June last year to June this year. after rising 1.0 per cent in May. The all-items index for June was 262.9.

Low petrol prices

The price drop in petrol, seen in certain areas of the country from April to May, increased in scope in June. Heightened competition in the petrol market caused certain dealers to reduce prices by up to one krone per liter from May to June. Filling stations outside thickly populated, competitive markets did not lower their prices as much. Overall, petrol prices fell 2.4 per cent from May to June. It is five years since such a strong decrease has been registered from one month to the next. Nonetheless, petrol prices are still about 18 per cent higher than in June 1991.
