Quarterly national accounts, 1st quarter:

Growth in external trade and household spending

GDP increased by NOK 11.8 billion measured in constant 1993 prices from first quarter 1995 to first quarter 1996. This is an increase of 5.4 per cent. Exports and household consumption contributed respectively NOK 8.1 and 5.8 billion to the growth.

According to preliminary figures from the quarterly national accounts the growth in GDP is being fuelled by a strong rise in exports and an upswing in household spending. Public consumption is also up, but to a much smaller degree. Total gross capital formation, measured in constant prices, declined from the first quarter of last year to the first quarter of this year.
