Higher consumption of electricity

Production of electric power was 15 percent higher in February compared to the same month last year. Consumption increased by 16 percent. High production so far this year and scarce precipitation have produced an extremely low filling percentage in reservoirs in certain areas.

Production of electric power in February was 12,516 GWh. Of the counties with high production of electricity (more than 10,000 GWh per year), the increase was the greatest in Rogaland and Nordland, where production rose 73 and 57.5 percent respectively compared to the same month last year.

Reduced percentage of filling

The charge ratio in the reservoirs has been relatively low this year due to high production during the winter and little precipitation. At the end of February the filling percentage was 46 percent, eight percent lower than the average charge ratio in 1982-1991.

Little water in Eastern Norway

In Eastern Norway, water levels in reservoirs have been especially low. The filling percentage in Eastern Norway and parts of Southern Norway was 23.5 percent at the end of March, while the normal level for this area is 34.3 percent.
