Four out of ten candidates are women
As for this year’s storting election, 42 per cent of the 3 688 candidates are women. This is three percent points more than at the last storting election. The Progress Party has a 6 percent point higher share of women this year, but still has a solid majority of male candidates, with 63 per cent.
Today 38 per cent of the storting members are women. The numbers of female and male candidates at the storting parties are about equal, except for the Progress Party and the Conservatives, which have the majority of male candidates.
High level of education among list nominees
The level of education is higher among the candidates than in the population as a whole (16 years of age and older). In the population 31 per cent that have finished below upper secondary school, compared to only 16 per cent of the list candidates. Two out of three of the candidates for Socialist Left and Liberal Party have higher education.
Many public employees as candidates
Many of the storting parties recruited their candidates from public sector. The Labour party has 42 per cent of their candidates from public administration and defences. Nearly 30 per cent of the candidates for Social Left Party come from the education sector. The Liberals and the Christian Democratic Party also have a high share of candidates from the education sector. 78 per cent of the list nominees are in employment, compared to 74 in the population (16 to 74 years). More than 90 per cent of all the candidates for the parties now represented at the storting are in employment.
11 parties running for election in every county
11 parties have lists in every county at the election this autumn. This includes the seven parties represented at the storting today. There are 24 lists that you can vote for in one or more counties.
