Reduction in settlements from abroad

Incoming bank settlement flows decreased from the second quarter of 2015 to the third quarter of 2015. During the same period, outgoing settlements increased.

Bank settlements from Norway to foreign countries surpassed the amount being sent to Norway, meaning that NOK 55 billion more money was sent out of Norway than was sent into Norway.

Settlements from foreign countries to Norwegian bank accounts amounted to NOK 510 billion in the third quarter of 2015. This was a decrease of 6.8 per cent, down NOK 37 billion from the second quarter.

Outgoing settlements from Norwegian non-financial enterprises and private persons showed an increase of 1.9 per cent, or NOK 10 billion, from the second quarter. The total settlements sent from Norwegian non-financial enterprises and private persons to foreign countries reached NOK 565 billion.

Compared with the third quarter of 2014, incoming settlements increased by NOK 46 billion. This was an increase of 9.8 per cent. In the same period, outgoing settlements increased by 7.5 per cent, going up by NOK 39 billion.

Decrease in settlements from Nordic countries

From the second to the third quarter of 2015, the decrease in the inward settlements was mainly due to a decrease in transfers from Nordic countries, which went down by NOK 23 billion from the second quarter. The inward settlements from EU countries except Nordic countries ended at NOK 220 billion in the third quarter of 2015.

Outgoing bank transfers from Norway to EU countries except Nordic countries increased by NOK 31 billion from the previous quarter; a rise of 12.2 per cent.

Decrease in transfers to electricity, gas and steam, and the mining and quarrying industry

Enterprises within electricity, gas and steam received NOK 58 billion from abroad in the third quarter of 2015. This was a decrease of NOK 22 billion from the second quarter, equivalent to a decrease of 27.1 per cent. Bank transfers to the mining and quarrying industry ended at NOK 76 billion; NOK 27 billion less than in the previous quarter, which was a reduction of 26.5 per cent.

Norwegian enterprises sent NOK 553 billion abroad in the third quarter of 2015, which was NOK 10 billion more than in the second quarter. In particular, enterprises within industry, and wholesale and retail trade: repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles had an increase in settlements to foreign countries, which both increased by NOK 5 billion each.
