Reduction in settlements from abroad

Incoming bank settlement flows decreased from the second quarter of 2014 to the third quarter of 2014. During the same period, outgoing settlements increased.

Cash flows from Norway to foreign countries surpassed the amount sent to Norway by NOK 60 billion.

Settlements from foreign countries to Norwegian bank accounts amounted to NOK 464 billion in the third quarter of 2014. This was a decrease of 5.1 per cent, down NOK 25 billion from the second quarter.

Outgoing settlements from Norwegian non-financial enterprises and private persons showed an increase of 4.4 per cent, or NOK 22 billion, from the second quarter. The total settlements sent from Norwegian non-financial enterprises and private persons to foreign countries reached NOK 525 billion.

However, compared with the third quarter of 2013, incoming settlements decreased by NOK 22 billion. This was a decrease of 4.4 per cent. In the same period, outgoing settlements increased by 7.5 per cent, going up by NOK 37 billion.

Decrease in settlements from EU countries except Nordic countries

From the second to the third quarter of 2014, the decrease in the inward settlements was mainly due to a decrease in transfers from EU countries except Nordic countries, which went down by NOK 14 billion from the second quarter. The inward settlements from EU countries except Nordic countries ended at NOK 211 billion in the third quarter of 2014.

Outgoing bank transfers from Norway to Nordic countries increased by NOK 11 billion from the previous quarter; a rise of 6.4 per cent.

Decreased transfers to manufacturing and to the mining and quarrying industry

Enterprises within manufacturing received NOK 134 billion from abroad in the third quarter of 2014. This was a decrease of NOK 10 billion from the second quarter, equivalent to a decrease of 6.8 per cent. Bank transfers to the mining and quarrying industry ended at NOK 89 billion; NOK 14 billion less than in the previous quarter and a reduction of 13.5 per cent.

Norwegian enterprises sent NOK 514 billion abroad in the third quarter of 2014, which was NOK 21 billion more than in the second quarter. It was especially enterprises within manufacturing and the transportation and storage industry that increased their settlements to foreign countries, which increased by NOK 9 billion and NOK 7 billion respectively.
