Increased settlement flows

In the fourth quarter of 2010 the incoming settlements through Norwegian banks ended at NOK 407 billion. For the same period the total value of outgoing settlements was NOK 391 billion.

From the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2010 the total values of both incoming and outgoing settlements between Norway and abroad increased. The incoming settlements ended at somewhat less than NOK 407 billion. This was an increase of slightly more than NOK 87 billion or 27.3 per cent. The outgoing settlements ended at slightly less than NOK 391 billion. Even here the growth in value was considerable; NOK 79 billion or 25.4 per cent compared with the third quarter.

More from EU and Nordic countries

The increase in transactions from the non-Nordic EU countries as well as the Nordic countries explained most of the increase in value for the incoming settlements in the fourth quarter. The incoming settlements from the non-Nordic EU countries have gone up NOK 53.2 billion or 39 per cent, while the value for the Nordic countries increased by NOK 21.4 billion or 18 per cent. For both North and Central America and Asia the incoming settlements have increased by NOK 5 billion from the third to the fourth quarter of 2010.

The development for the outgoing settlements was also characterised by growth for most of the same country groups. The settlements to non-Nordic EU countries increased by NOK 37.5 billion or 28 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter of 2010. Likewise the settlements to the Nordic countries had a growth of NOK 35.2 billion or 32 per cent. Also North and Central America as well as Asia showed increases of NOK 1.3 and 3.3 billion respectively.
