Reduced settlement flows

In the third quarter of 2010 incoming settlements through Norwegian banks ended at NOK 320 billion. For the same period the total value of outgoing settlements was NOK 311 billion.

From the second quarter to the third quarter of 2010 the total values of both incoming and outgoing settlements between Norway and abroad decreased. The incoming settlements ended at somewhat less than NOK 320 billion. This was a decrease of slightly more than NOK 29 billion or 8.4 per cent from the second quarter. The outgoing settlements ended at somewhat more than NOK 311 billion. This was a fall in value of just NOK 5.6 billion or 1.8 per cent compared with the second quarter.

The decrease in transactions from the non-Nordic EU countries explained most of the decline in value for the incoming settlements in the third quarter. Compared with the second quarter this year there have been some changes in the country distribution. The incoming settlements from the non-Nordic EU countries have gone down NOK 24.4 billion or 15 per cent. From North and Central America incoming settlements fell by NOK 5.1 billion, while the Nordic countries showed a minor increase.

For the outgoing settlements the development was characterised by a downfall for most of the significant groups. The settlements to the Nordic countries were reduced by NOK 4.1 billion or 3.6 per cent from the second to the third quarter this year. Also North and Central America as well as Asia showed drops of NOK 1.5 and 2.0 billion. Non-Nordic EU countries on the other hand showed an increase in the outgoing settlements of NOK 2.2 billion.

Unless otherwise stated, the statistics only cover payments via commercial banks.
