Increased incoming settlements

In the second quarter of 2010 the incoming settlements through Norwegian banks ended at NOK 349 billion. For the same period, the total value of outgoing settlements was NOK 317 billion.

From the first quarter to the second quarter of 2010 the total values of incoming settlements between Norway and abroad increased, while the outgoing ones showed a small decline. The incoming settlements ended at somewhat more than NOK 349 billion in the second quarter of 2010. This was an increase of slightly less than NOK 36 billion or 11.5 per cent from the previous quarter. The outgoing settlements ended at slightly more than NOK 317. This was a fall in value of just NOK 2.5 billion or 0.8 per cent compared with the first quarter.

The increase in transactions from the EU countries except the Nordic ones accounted for the growth in value for the incoming settlements in the second quarter. Compared with the first quarter this year, there have been some changes in the country distribution. The incoming settlements from the non-Nordic EU countries have gone up NOK 29.2 billion or 22 per cent. North and Central America showed expanded incoming settlements by NOK 6.5 billion, while the Nordic countries were the only major group of countries with reduced settlements - by NOK 2.5 billion.

For the outgoing settlements, the development in the country distribution was similar. The settlements to the Nordic countries were reduced by NOK 13.5 billion. In the opposite direction, both EU countries except the Nordic ones and North and Central America showed increased settlement flows in the second quarter, with NOK 7.9 and 2.3 billion respectively.
