Increased settlement flows

In the fourth quarter of 2009 the outgoing settlements from Norwegian banks ended at NOK 350 billion. The total value of incoming settlements for the same period was NOK 359 billion.

Both the incoming and outgoing settlements between Norway and abroad increased from the third to the fourth quarter of 2009. The outgoing settlements ended at slightly more than NOK 350 billion in the fourth quarter. This is an increase of only NOK 2.6 billion or 0.7 per cent from the previous quarter. The incoming settlements increased by NOK 10.6 billion or 3.1 per cent, ending at almost NOK 359 billion in the last quarter of 2009.

The increased transactions from the EU countries except the Nordic ones accounted for the growth in value for the incoming settlements in the fourth quarter. There have been some changes in the country distribution compared with the third quarter. The incoming settlements from the aforementioned EU countries have risen by NOK 49.5 billion or 37 per cent from the third quarter. Conversely, the Nordic countries and North and Central America showed a decrease in the incoming settlements of NOK 14.4 and 27 billion respectively.
