More than 60 per cent of counties' expenditures on education

More than 60 per cent of the counties' net operating expenditures consisted of expenditures on upper secondary education and other education purposes in 2005. This figure has been stable the last few years.

185 000 persons, or about 85 per cent of participants in upper secondary education were registered as pupils in the autumn 2005. The rest of the participants, about 32 000 persons, were registered as apprentices. 97 000 of the pupils chose general areas of study, while 88 000 pupils participated in vocational studies. 95 per cent of pupils in upper secondary schools attended schools owned by the county.

On average, total adjusted gross operating expenditures per pupil in county-owned schools was 106 000 NOK the financial year 2005. The corresponding expenses per pupil in general fields of study was 94 000 NOK, while the expenses per pupil in vocational studies was 117 000 NOK. The counties' expenditures per apprentice is lower than expenditures per pupil. Adjusted gross operating expenditures, grants to private enterprises included, were 44 000 NOK per apprentice.
