Export on Norwegian lorries down

In 2001 3.7 million tonnes of goods were transported on Norwegian lorries to and from abroad. This was a 2.4 per cent decrease from 2000. The transport performance went down by 7.6 per cent in the same period, and constituted 2.8 billion tonne-kilometres in 2001.

Tonnage carried. 1st quarter 1996-2001. 1000 tonnes

In 2001 Norwegian lorries transported 1.7 million tonnes of goods out from Norway. This was a decrease of 7.8 per cent from the previous year. The amount of goods imported was slightly higher this year, with 2.0 million tonnes of goods imported by Norwegian lorries. From 1996 to 2001 the amount of goods transported from Norway went down by 14.7 per cent, while the amount of goods imported to Norway went up by 9.9 per cent.

Sweden most important marked

Despite a decrease in the total amount of goods exported, the amount of goods exported to Sweden increased by 6.3 per cent from 2000, after some years of decrease. Norwegian lorries transported 1.4 million tonnes of goods from Sweden in 2001. This is 13.4 per cent more than in the previous year. The import from Sweden constituted 70.8 per cent of the total amount of goods imported on Norwegian lorries in 2001.

Decline in the international journeys' share of transport performance

In 2001 Norwegian lorries transported 220 million tonnes of goods domestically and abroad. Between 1999 and 2001 the international transport as a share of the total amount of goods transported by Norwegian lorries, has remained fairly constant on 1.7 per cent. The total transport performance was 15.2 billion tonne-kilometres in 2001, and 18.4 per cent of this was in connection with transport abroad. The reason for this share being higher than the corresponding share for the tonnage carried is that the journeys abroad are considerably longer than the domestic journeys. However, the international journeys' share of the total transport performance has gone down in the last three years, from 21.1 in 1999 to 18.4 in 2001.

1st quarter 2002: Less transport abroad

In the first quarter of 2002 a total of 0.9 million tonnes of goods was transported to and from Norway, and the transport performance was 668.3 million tonne-kilometres in this period.

The total length of carriage in connection with transport abroad went down from 47.4 million kilometres in the first quarter of 2001 to 43.2 million kilometres in the first quarter of 2002.

Tonnage carried. 1st quarter. 1999-2002. 1000 tonnes

From the first quarter of 2001 the amount of goods exported on Norwegian lorries went down by 3.6 per cent, while the amount of goods imported went down by 0.3 per cent. Imported goods from Sweden went up by 5.7 per cent in this period, and the share of the total import of goods on Norwegian lorries coming from Sweden was 72.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2002.

The transport performance has gone down by 11.4 per cent from the first quarter of 2001, and in the first quarter of 2002, the transport performance was 668.3 million tonne-kilometres.

This publication has been resumed including new figures from the first quarter of 2000. It has been necessary to make minor adjustments to the method of estimation (see About the statistics).
