Increase in transport abroad

Norwegian-registered lorries carried 987 000 tonnes goods abroad the 2nd quarter this year. This was an increase of 9.2 per cent compared with the same quarter the year before. The transport work constituted 894 million ton-kilometres, an increase of 14.1 per cent compared with 2nd quarter 1999.

Norwegian lorries carried nearly 2 million tonnes abroad during the first two quarters this year. This was a decrease of 1.7 per cent compared with the same period the year before. The transport work constituted 1 600 million ton-kilometres, an increase of 3.9 per cent.

The total distance driven with and without cargo in connection with trips abroad came to 100 million kilometres the first two quarters in 2000. This was an increase of 0.7 per cent compared with the same period the year before. Of the total distance driven in connection with trips abroad 21 per cent, or 20 million kilometres, was driven in Norway. The percentage of kilometres driven without cargo was 11 per cent.

Including transports within Norway, Norwegian-registered lorries carried 109 million tonnes goods the first two quarters of 2000. The total transport work in connection with trips within Norway and abroad was 7 700 million ton-kilometres.
