Less kilometres without cargo

The total distance driven with and without cargo in connection with trips abroad came to 45 million kilometres in 1st quarter 2000. This was a decrease of 10 per cent compared with the same quarter the year before. The percentage of kilometres driven without cargo was 9.9 per cent. Utilization of capacity on trips with and without cargo was 62.6 per cent, compared to 59.1 per cent 1st quarter 1999

Of the total distance driven in connection with trips abroad 24 per cent, or 11 million kilometres, was driven in Norway.

Norwegian-registered lorries carried nearly 1 million tons goods abroad 1st quarter this year. This was a decrease of 10.8 per cent compared to the same quarter the year before. The transport work constituted 732 million ton-kilometres, a decrease of 6.3 per cent compared to 1st quarter 1999.

481 000 tons were transported to Norway and 467 000 tons from Norway, a decrease of 16 and 1.2 per cent, respectively, compared to 1st quarter 1999. The transport work carried out in connection to trips to and from Norway, decreased in the same period by 2.5 and 7.6 per cent, respectively.

The transport work on trips to and from Germany was 124 million ton-kilomtres, an increase of 13.7 per cent from 1st quarter 1999.

Utilization of capacity on trips with and without cargo was 62.6 per cent, compared to 59.1 per cent 1st quarter 1999. In assessing capacity utilization it must be taken into account that the degree of utilization for a number of goods is limited by volume and not by weight. If a correction is made for volume goods, capacity utilization increased by 3 percentage points to 65.6 per cent.
