Lower bus costs

The cost index for passenger transport by bus went down by 0.5 per cent from the 4th quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter in 2015. Compared to the 3rd quarter 2015 the index fell by 0.4 per cent.

The sub-index for capital costs decreased most sharply in the period from the 4th quarter 2014 to the 4th quarter 2015, a decrease of 14.1 per cent. From the 3rd quarter to the 4th quarter of 2015 there was a decrease of 4.9 per cent. Capital costs consist of depreciation costs for new buses and interest costs. Interest rates are based on 10-year bonds from the Central Bank, adjusted by the CPI-ATE (CPI adjusted for tax changes and excluding energy products).

Reduced fuel costs

The sub-index for fuel decreased by 7.1 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2014, while compared to the 3rd quarter of 2015 there was a decrease of 2.1 per cent.

Labour costs increased

The sub-index for labour costs increased 2.5 per cent from the 4th quarter of 2014 to the 4th quarter of 2015. From the 3rd quarter to the 4th quarter of 2015 the increase was 0.2 per cent. Labour costs are the most important part of the total index and constitute 56 per cent of the costs.

More expensive repairs and administration

The sub-indices for administrative costs and repairs and maintenance increased by 2.4 and 3.7 per cent respectively from the 4th quarter of 2014. From the 3rd quarter of 2015, the increase was 1.4 and 1.1 per cent respectively.
