Cheaper bus operation

The cost index for passenger transport by bus experienced a decrease by 0.8 per cent from the 3rd quarter of 2014 to the same quarter in 2015. Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2015, the index decreased by 0.7 per cent.

The sub-index for labour costs increased by 2.6 per cent from the 3rd quarter of 2014 to the 3rd quarter of 2015. From the 2nd quarter of 2015 to the 3rd quarter of 2015, there was an increase of 0.7 per cent. Labour costs are the main component of the overall index and constitute 56 per cent of the total cost.

Reduced fuel costs

The sub-index for fuel declined by 7.9 per cent compared to the 3rd quarter of 2014. From the 2nd quarter of 2015 to the 3rd quarter of 2015, fuel costs decreased by 2.4 per cent.

Decrease in capital costs

The sub-index for capital costs declined from the 3rd quarter of 2014 to the 3rd quarter of 2015 by 13.9 per cent. From the 2nd quarter of 2015 to the 3rd quarter of 2015, there was a decrease of 7.9 per cent. Capital costs consist of depreciation costs for new buses and interest costs. Interest rates are based on 10-year bonds from the central bank, which are adjusted for inflation with CPI-ATE (CPI adjusted for tax changes and excluding energy products).

More expensive repairs and administration

The sub-indices for administrative costs and repair and maintenance costs rose by 1.5 and 2.8 per cent respectively last year. From the 2nd quarter to the 3rd quarter of 2015, administrative costs increased by 0.1 per cent and costs for repair and maintenance increased by 1.1 per cent.
