The cost index for passenger transport by bus was stable from the 4th quarter of 2013 to the corresponding quarter in 2014. Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2014, the index decreased by 0.7 per cent.

The sub-index for capital costs declined the most in the period from the 4th quarter of 2013 to the 4th quarter of 2014; a decrease of 19.5 per cent. From the 3rd to the 4th quarter of 2014 there was a decline of 4.8 per cent. The change in capital costs is mainly due to changes in interest rates. Interest rates are based on 10-year bonds from the central bank, which are adjusted for inflation with CPI-ATE (CPI adjusted for tax changes and excluding energy products).

Reduced fuel costs

The sub-index for fuel declined by 4.2 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter in 2013, and compared to the 3rd quarter of 2014 there was a decrease of 3.0 per cent.

Labour costs increased

The sub-index for labour costs went up 2.8 per cent from the 4th quarter of 2013 to the 4th quarter of 2014. From the 3rd quarter to the 4th quarter in 2014 the increase was 0.2 per cent. Labour costs are the main component of the overall index and constitute 56 per cent of the total cost. Sub-indices for administrative and repair costs had a growth of 2.9 and 3.5 per cent respectively from the 4th quarter of 2013. Since the 3rd quarter of 2014, the increase has been 0.5 and 0.3 per cent respectively.
