Considerable growth in traffic

The total production by rail comprised 3.1 billion passenger kilometres in 2008; an increase from 2007 of almost 6 per cent. The tonne-kilometres produced came to 3.6 billion in 2008. This was an insignificant increase from 2007.

More than 59 million passengers travelled by railway on Norwegian territory in 2008. Slightly less than 25 million tonnes were transported this year. While the number of passengers increased by 4 per cent in 2008, there was almost no change in the tonnes transported.
