Increase in border transport by lorry

In the second quarter of 2007, more than 3 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorry across the border between Norway and one of the neighbouring countries. The border transport is usually high in the second quarter of the year, but this is more than in any quarter before.

Compared with the same quarter in 2006, 5.2 per cent more goods were carried by lorry across the border in the second quarter 2007. The increase from the previous quarter was 2.2 per cent.

Lorries driving into Norway carried about twice the quantity as those driving out of the country. The imports by this mode of transport amounted to 2 million tonnes while the exports were 1 million tonnes. Norwegian lorries performed 64 per cent of the exports and 35 per cent of the imports.

These figures cover goods transported by lorries passing the national border on road. Imports and exports by lorry on ferry are not included.
