The planning statistics are based on digital data from the municipalities' spatial planning obtained from Geonorge and provide a status with as detailed figures as possible for each annual release. Statistics will also capture improvements in data completeness as well as changes resulting from revisions of the municipal master plan¿s land use section in individual municipalities. This table includes land use objectives from municipal spatial plans for terrestrial areas belonging to mainland Norway, including islands. Land use objectives from applicable zoning plans are included where available. In other areas, land use objectives from the municipal master plan¿s land use section are used, where this exists. Land reserves are areas in the municipal master plan designated for development but not yet built up. Areas that are already developed or incompatible with construction have been deducted.

land use objectives

Land use purposes are main elements in the area section of municipal plans, which specifies with legally binding effect what the area can be used for. The various land uses are indicated using colors and codes. The land uses from 1985 have a 3-digit code, from 2008 they have a 4-digit code. This code is together with the name of the land-use objective.

area classification

Land cover is divided according to land cover into the classes built-up area, agricultural area, forest, open land, wetland/swamp and other. Built-up area includes transport, and the category other includes other types of land such as block land, water, glaciers and areas that have not been mapped.
